Pacific spaghetti eel
The Pacific spaghetti eel〔(Common names for ''Gorgasia japonica'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 (''Gorgasia japonica'') is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).〔(''Gorgasia japonica'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by Tokiharu Abe, M. Miki and Minoru Asai in 1977.〔Abe, T., M. Miki and M. Asai, 1977 (20 Mar.) (7225 ) ''Description of a new garden eel from Japan.'' Uo (Japanese Society of Ichthyology) No. 28: 1-8.〕 It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling eel which is known from the northwestern and southwestern Pacific Ocean, including Japan (from which its species epithet is derived) and New Zealand. It dwells at a maximum depth of . It is non-migratory, and inhabits sand flats near reefs. Males can reach a maximum total length of ; the diameter of the body is approximately 10 millimetres.〔
